As someone who loves plants, succulents have always been a favorite of mine. They are easy to care for, visually appealing, and bring a touch of nature into my home.
However, keeping them healthy during the summer can be a challenge. After plenty of trial and error, I have figured out the best routine for keeping my succulents healthy.
If you are wondering how often to water succulents in the summer, here are some experiences I will share. These experiences help me find the appropriate task that we should follow.
But all of them have specific precautions. If you skip any part of this guide, you might miss out on the best practices for using them effectively.
In addition, I will share some simple tools that make the job easier!
How Often Should You Water Succulents in the Summer?
The most important rule: Only water, when the soil is completely dry. In the summer heat, this usually means watering once a week, but the frequency may vary based on your local climate. For getting the best result I usually use some tools for watering the succulents properly.
- To Check soil moisture: Before watering the succulents I must ensure that the soil is dry or not. To check it properly I usually rely on the XLUX Soil Moisture Meter. This simple tool is good to use, cause it doesn’t need batteries.

- To Water deeply: When it’s time to water, I use the Haws Handy Watering Can with its long spout for precise watering, ensuring the soil gets a thorough soak.

- To Ensure proper drainage: To prevent overwatering, I plant my succulents in well-draining pots like the Mkono Ceramic Succulent Pots, which have built-in drainage holes.

The Best Time to Water
Morning watering works best. This allows the plants to absorb moisture before the heat of the afternoon causes rapid evaporation. I also take care to avoid getting water on the leaves to prevent sunburn spots.
Extra Tips for Summer Succulent Care
- Choose the right soil – I’ve had great success with Organic Succulent Soil, which prevents excess moisture buildup.

- Provide shade during heat waves – If the sun is too intense, I move my succulents under a shade cloth or place them near a bright indoor window.
- Mist occasionally – While succulents don’t need high humidity, I sometimes mist them with the Mist Spray Bottle if the air feels excessively dry.
